You may remember that back in June of this year I spent a day on a wire wrapping course in London, and for months I have been planning to make some simple sterling silver wire wrapped gemstones pendants.

Well in mid November I had a eureka moment and I got super creative.

As you all know I love gemstones, especially the weird shaped, unusual, raw and colourful ones, and whenever I visit cities and towns where I know they have a gemstone shop, I always have to make a point of visiting them and finding those wonderful natural finds.

The problem with this is invariably the gemstones are irregularly shaped, which of course posses a few design challenges when it comes to wire wrapping them, and this is one of the reasons why it has taken me so long to make those pendants.

So after spending a day with other handmade crafters at a handmade arts fair, I came away super inspired, creative and determined, and decided to spend a weekend playing, experimenting and working out the best way to simply wire wrap the gemstones, while still showing off their natural beauty.

I started of with copper wire to better understand the shapes and figure out what would is the best way to create the pendants, and here are a few of my practice runs:

Once I got a little more proficient I converted the copper wire wrapped pendants to sterling silver wire wrapped pendants, and here are a few of my favourite pieces
