We are now getting down to the business end of the British Craft Trade Fair 2018 in Harrogate

So far in this series of blog I have been concentrating on the display aspect of the Britisch Craft Trade Fair.

That said, it has not been far from my mind what I actually want t display at this event, and for the last 3 months I have been comig up with collection design ideas.

This is another aspect that I struggled with, as up to this point I hav only designed one of pieces, even if a did a collection of earrings, bracelets and necklaces, they were always designed to be individual one-off pieces, as I love the idea that if someone is wearing a piece of my jewellery, unless someone has copied it they will be the only one in the world wearing it.

When it comes to trade fairs, you are doing the complete opposite, so I have to design pieces that will be replicated and will be the same, at a reasonable wholesale price.

Luckily I have over 800 unique designs that I can use as a reference point and tweak slightly, but when you have soooooo many options, something its makes the task a whole lot harder!

So I have settled on themes based on the gemstones and their properties, but in real terms the designs can be applied to any gemstone.

So far the gemstone property themes I am going for are:

• Magical
• Protection
• Luck
• Abundance, and
• Love

I plan to narrow them down to just 3 themes, and create my collections using the semi-precious gemstones with those qualities.

As a bit of a sneak peek, I have sourced some wonderful blue tigers eye and some labradorite beads...
