Bloodstone - March - Gemstone of the Month
Bloodstone whose Greek name is heliotrope, which translates to "sun turning", as many believed that when the stone was immersed in water the sun turns red.
It was believed in the olden days that bloodstones were magical stones, and that by simply touching a bloodstone, it stopped heamorrhages.
Bloodstones are also known as the "Martyr's Stone" as legend has it that the gemstone was formed when drops of Jesus' blood stained jasper stones on the foot of the cross, when Jesus was crucified.
Although bloodstone is typically a dark green Chalcedony, it is sometimes refered to as Blood Jasper.
Bloodstones are knows as stones of courage, and it enhances self-esteem and self-appreciation.
