Labradorite on Parade
Who doesn't love Labradorite?
Labradorite is one of those healing stones that is easily recognisable, a magical healing stone, used by shamans, diviners, healers, and all who travel and embrace the universe seeking knowledge and guidance. It is a wonderful gemstone for awakening one’s self discovery of inner spirit, intuition and psychic abilities.
A stunning and striking healing crystal prized for its chatoyency, especially when it comes in shades of blue, purple and orange.
It is with this in mind that this month I spent a number of days creating a collection of bezel set labradorite jewellery.
The first piece I actually started weeks before, was this gorgeous labradorite teardrop which I could not decide whether to make it into a ring or pendant. It's blue flash was absolutely stunning, and I finally decided on making it into a pendant after I created 2 labradorite rings.
I created the fine and sterling silver setting as per usual, added the bail and at that point I realised that I had not taken into consideration the best orientation of the stone to show its stunning blue flash.
For weeks I deliberated whether to finish this design, or start again, before finally biting the bullet, and starting the whole design again.
I took the design one step further by added some sterling silver granulated balls, and I created a teardrop cut out to the setting as the back of the cabochon was just as stunning as the front:
After finishing the teardrop pendant my eye was caught be a squarish labradorite cabochon, which I thought would lend itself to a chunky statement ring.
I created the ring shank using 10mm wide 1mm thick sterling silver wire, and used a design punch to add a random pattern on to it before forming the ring:
To finish of the collection of labradorite jewellery I created these cute handmade serrated sterling silver studs, in a lighter colour with a very subtle blue flash:
They are all available to buy on the website along with the other labradorite goodies that I have created and added.
I would really love to hear your thoughts, so post something in the comments below.
Until next time
