Handcrafted Geometric Rings
Handcrafted Geometric Rings
Being self taught means that my handcrafted jewelery designs tend to be extremely flexible and organic
Since Christmas I have been thinking about the designs of my rings.
There are so many things that you can do with sterling silver sheet and wire, and over the previous months I have been working on my texturing and stamping techiques as a way of distinguishing my handcrafted jewellery designs from other jewellers at face-to-face artisan markets and fayres.
Following the Bishton Hall Easter Craft Fair, I noticed that a few of my customers had small fingers, especially when they were looking for a small finger ring.
When I got back to Liverpool, I decided that I wanted to offer them so rings, and started the process of created simple textured sterling silver ring
However what I start designing and what I end up creating usually are 2 different things, as my handcrafted jewellery designs do tend to take a bit of a tangent, and in this is what happened in this case.
I was looking at these small round rigs thinking surely I can do more!
With this in mind I grabbed hold of my rounded square mandrel to reshape the 1st ring shank.
I was worried that by changing the basic shape of the ring that it would be awkard to wear, but surpurisingly I found it more comfortable than the orginal round ring:

Bouyed by the success of the square rings, I wanted to know what an hexagonal ring would look like and feel to wear.
The practicality of wearing the hexagonal ring was a bit more challenging as there is only one way for it to sit comfortability on the finger.
Looking at my new my geometric shaped ring shanks, than came the question do I leave them or add a healing crystal to them?
After much umming and ahhing, I decided to bling them up.
Starting with the hexagonal ring shank, I thought it would look perfect with a triangular tourmaline rainbow moonstone cabochon.
This posed 2 challenges within the design:
- Where on the ring should the cabochon be attached, and
- What is the best orientation of the stone to show of its rainbow sheen at its best?
Finding the correct orientation of the stone w.r.t. the ring shank to show of its' rainbow sheen was a little trickier, but I think I was able to get the best effect in the end:
The last ring to get my attention was one of the square rings I crate earlier, and I thought that the facetted triangular amethyst cabochon would really set it off!
Playing around with the placement of the setting in relation to the band, I thought as the ring was already a contemporary design why not place the stone in a different location, and set it off center to the ring shank:

I love how contemporary these geometric healing crystal rings turned out, sterling silver is such a gorgeous neutral metal that not only does not detract the natural beauty of the healing stones, even with the textures, but actually amplifies the crystals energies and healing properties so what do you think?
The hexagon tourmaline rainbow moonstone ring has since sold, but I would really love to hear your thoughts on these ring designs, so post something in the comments below.
Until next time
