Using Ones Intuition
Using Ones Intuition
In business sometimes you need a bit of luck or use your intuition
One of the hardest things with making rings is sizes
In business you don't want to tie to much money in stock, but you also don'y want to loose a sale because you haven't got what the customer wants.
This is a continous learning process for Joolzery, as I am finding different geographical area has different average ring sizes, and of course it is all dependent upon which finger they want to wear the ring on.
After my earlier failed attempts of second guessing rings sizes I am now using the Cinderella approach, that is I will create the ring with the healing crystal in a size that I think is best, and if a customer is attracted to the ring, tries it on and it fits, it is meant for them!!!
This has been a pretty good sales strategy for rings, as I have a stash of healing crystal in different shapes and sizes, so I can always make bespoke ring for the customer where they can have more control of the design.
My intuition seems to be on point at the moment, as Amethyst, Labradorite, Rainbow Moonstone, Malachite and Larimar are very popular at the moment at the events that I am attending.
Case in point at the May Ruthin Indoor market, I had a customer who absolutely fell in love with a Larimar ring, but the 2 I had on my stall was too small for her finger.
I said not to worry that I have other Larimar stones at home, and I could make a ring for her that she could collect when I return in June.
Finger measured, design discussed and agreed, all is good
When I got home, I checked my stock, and wasn't happy with the Oval LArimar cabochons that I had, as I felt they would be too big for the customer, so I ordered a new pack in.
When I received them a couple of days later, I photographed all the ovals that I thought she would like along with the measurements, emailed them to her, and waited for her response, but heard nothing.
I waited for 3 weeks and still heard nothing, and I was returning to the market on Sunday.
What does one do?
In this case i used my intuition, remember what she said about the rings I had on the stand, and what she wanted.
I looked at the 3 oval larimar cabochons, and thought and asked which would be the perfect stone her ring, picked one that really stood out and made the ring:
Handcrafted recycled sterling silver oval Larimar ring
I texted her to say that I had made the ring, and included some photos of the ring, to which I got a positive response saying how beautiful the ring was and she wouuld be down on Sunday to pick it up.
With all commission pieces especially with rings, I am always nervous as to whether the ring will fit, and so when the customer tried it on it was a true Cinderella moment, as it fitted like a glove, and she absolutely loved it
Just goes to show, going with your intuition rarely leads you to bad places!!!
I would really love to hear your thoughts, so post something in the comments below.
Until next time
