We've got Tanzanite Earrings!!!
We've got Tanzanite Earrings!!!
I have had a few customers asking for Tanzanite jewellery over the past few months
Tanzanite is known as blue zoisite, and is a type of epidote, which activates several chakras from the heart to the crown and is used to link the mind with the heart.
A powerful transformation gemstone, Tanzanite is fantastic to use when developing spiritual abilities and growth.
Tanzanite is one of those stones that are hard to get at a reason price, so when I was offered them online,I snapped them up.
Unfortunately when I recived them there was a slight catch, that they where all random shapes, and different shades, along with being smaller than expected:
Mixed shaped Tanzanite cabochons
This naturally put a dent in my design ideas with them, and I put them in a draw to be worked wih later.
A regular customer visted one of my markets in May, and asked if I had any Tanzanite earrings, to add to her collecton of Joolzery earrings.
The only thing I could offer her was studs, which realy isn't her thing.
Since then I have had a number of enquiries about Tanzanite earrings, but still hadn't decided how I was going to incorporate these gorgeous stones that I had into my jewellery design.
With the Pop up in the Palm House Winter Market fast approaching, I really didn't want to disappoint my regular customer and took those tanzanite out of the draw.
I decided that I would make 3 pars of earrings.
This would be my trickest bezel setting exercise as not are these the smallest cabochons I have worked with but also the most irregular.
With a bit of perserverience, innovation and obligatory swearing all the fine silver side walls have been made and are ready to solder to the back plates.
I love the goriousshades of purple/violet blue of these Tanzanite cabochons, but somehow with 20 pieces of this healing stone I cannot find a matching pair in terms aof shope of colour!!!
There's nothing for it these will have to be asymmetric earrings, which I love anyway as I think it makes things more interesting!
Working with the longest and biggest pair of tanzanite cabochons, I wanted to create a setting for the long rectangular stones, and thought a diamond orientation of the back plate would compliment the stone:

Working with the next pair of tanzanite cabochons, I wanted to create a different geomtric setting for these mismatched stones, and played around with a square, oval and triangle back plate setting before deciding to go with a hexagonal one, to compliment the stone, in different orientations:

As to the third pair, well as you can see they didn't quite make it as the setting was made to small on one of the earrings, so I will have to scrap it and start again.
Due to the sizes of these Tanzanite cabochon, I think my other designs are going to be influenced by Rennie McKintosh, especially any pendants and/or rings I make.
All these pieces are currently not on my website, but you can email me if you see something that you like.
