What is t about Turquoise?
What is t about Turquoise?
This month I have been working with some truly stunning Turquoise Stones
This month I have been working with two different types of Turquoise healing Crystals:
- Mojave Turquoise, and
- Tibetan Turquoise
Both stones are stuning in their own unique way.
Turquoise is a purification stone, itdispels negative energy and can be worn to protect against outside influences or pollutants in the atmosphere.
Turquoise balances and aligns all the chakras, stabilising mood swings and instilling inner calm.
Mojave Turquoise is actually a matrix of Turquoise and Copper, which results in some stunning and dramatric formations.
Seeing them online, I was instantly drawn to the triangle Pale Blue Mojave Turquoise, as it was screaming to be made into a pendant, and as they come in a pack of 2, the oval naturally became a statement ring.
Keeping the setting neutral, as I did not want to detract the the natural beauty of the stone, instead I added a little something something to the ring band:

Over the last few months Turquoise has been really popular, especially the copper turquoise studs and chaos rings, my earrings sell out really quickly too, so when my supplier offered me some Tibetan Turquoise I jumped at the chance!!!
Two things I learned about Tibetan turquoise:
- They come in different shades of colour from dark blue to pale green and everything in between with different matrixes, and
- Tibet does not export cabochons, but beads, to the world, and the cutters then cut them into cabochons.
This means that Tibetan turquoise cabochons tend to have grooves on the back, you will get 2 matching stones which is great for making earrings or matching rings or pendants, unfortunately though it does mean that the stones tend to be thinner than usual, and sometimes uneven.
As you can imagine I was like a child in an candy shop, so much choice and variety, all unique, and at the time i was offered a strip of them, so I choose they ones with deep blue/black matrixes and with interesting paterns:
Sizing is always an issue, and as stunning as they are when they arrived I was a bit disappointed with the sizes as I was expecting them to be bigger.
Most are too small for pendants and I might be able to get a few rings from the bigger stones, so the rest will become earrings and studs.
When you have such stunning stones I feel you just want to show them off to their best, and with so much variety and choice where does one start?
My approach was to go the the simplist shape, a circle with the most intense blue black matrix, but there was so many design variables, which I always work out organically.
Should I make them into studs? dangle earrings? drop earrings the list is endless!!!
At least one option that I did not have to worry about is should I leave the back of the design, as unfortunately the front of all the cabochons have been highly polished, but the back of the stones are a bit of a disaster area.
As I started making the bezel, the earring design was formed, and I created geometric minimalist settings for the earrings, with square wire earwires:

I love how these Tibetan turquoise earrings turned out, and I will be working on a limited collection of earrings and rings with the other stones I have in stock.
The Mojave Turquoise Pendant and Ring sold at the market at the weekend, but I have ordered more of these cabochons, so waiting what my supplier sends, and these will be added to the website in the next fortnight.
These earrings are currently not on my website, but you can email me if you see what that you like.
