Copper rings but not as you know it
Copper rings but not as you know it
New ring designs in copper
Currently I am having a bit of a sizing issue with my square rings, which hasn't been a problem in the past as I just make the rings and take the Cinderella approach, but I have 2 sterling silver square ring commissions, which is proving a bit tricksy to get the correct size, as there are no tools it's proving more challenging that I thought.
My first attempt, using my usual method resulted in both rings being too small for the customer.
So it was back to the drawing board, researching with google and youtube, but to no avail.
I even resorted to using some of my A level mathematics and Pythagorus theorem come up with a solution!!!
The net result is that I decided to test my different equations and approaches, using copper metal, so I now have a new collection of textured and stamped square copper rings:

Whilst I was in the experimentation mode, I decided to have a play with the other different geometic shapes, textures and stamps to add a little bit something my handcrafted ring collection.
Always pushing things to the next level, I decided that I wanted to see what triangle rings would look like and work.
I started off with an equilateral triangle, and tried working out the length of metal required to create the same diameter of a round ring.
Unfortunately the triangle ring design was a bit of a disaster as it was too wide for it to sit on the finger comfortably, so it's back to the drawing board for them at the moment.
I splashed out on a new hammer over the festive period, so I wanted to see what it could do with improving my stamping, esepcially as I have ordered a new set of stamps that I am currently waiting to be shipped from America.
Getting used to a new hammer is always a bit tricksy as you want to hammer the stamp enough to leave an imprint, without completely mashing up the metal:

As you will remember last year one of my ring designs on my to do list was spinner rings, and I got as far as buying the kits to make the flare shape, which for the last 12 months has been in its box, until now.
I have had a couple of design ideas with regards to these spinner rings, which includes contrasts and duality, textures to make them more sensory, especially after talking to parents of an autistic child.

I wanted to take the opportunity to work out the practicalities of a textured ring and the anticlastic shape of the ring, before I start with the new designs, with or without the spinner:

I have to say that I love the new copper rings, and had a lot of positive feedback at the makers market earlier this month.
Why do you think?
