Labradorite what's not to like?
Labradorite what's not to like?
Labradorite is always a stone that draws customers to my stand at markets, and I prize the blue flashes of the stones, and take this into consideration when setting the stones as this is what sells the pieces.
Although big statement rings are very popular, I do have a few customers who feel that they are not right for their fingers and hands, so with this in mind I decided to make a couple of smaller statement labradorite rings, whilst trying out my new artisan handcrafted stamps from America
Going throught my stash of blue flash labradorite cabochons, a rectangular stone really caught my eye, and my inner magpie thought how wonderful this would be as a ring?
When I make my rings, I do so intuitively, and the final design only happens when the piece is complete, that said I knew what I wanted the ring shank to be stamped, with stars.
The reason for this you may ask?
Labradorite is a transformation healing stone, a crystal of magic, so what is more magical than stars, and as I have 3 star stamps of different sizes I could make the band look like a galaxy.
Once I created the 2 ring settings, I really wanted to make this ring a contemporary piece of wearable art, but was thinking is a rectangular stone on a square ring shank too much???
In the words of Luther Vandross, Never Too Much, I threw caution to the wind and created the ring:
Handcrafted SS Rectangular Labradorite Star Stamped Square Ring
Well this baby is now in it's forever home, as it sold the day after I made it at the Bishton Hall Spring Fair, to a love lady who loves contemporary rings!!!
For those who prefer the more tradition ring design I made this super cute teardrop labradorite ring, with the most amazing blue flash, it's truly mesmerising:
As much as I love the labradoressence of this fabulous healing crystal, I seem to be going through a rough healing crystal stage, and in the past I've looved the frosty effect tis type of stone gives, so when I was offered some druzy top labradorite I jumped at the chance to buy some!
With druzy labradorite cabochons there are 3 things to be aware of:
- These are rough top or druzy so invariably the stone is not flat,
- Rough top cabochons tend to be a little more fragile are they may not have been stablised, and
- It can be harder to find the best labradoressence of the stone, as its not always apparent
As the stone is so dramatic, with is dark electric blue flash, I didn't want anything to detract from its natural beauty and textured the ring shank sympathetically:
Another Druzy labradorite stone caught my inner magpie, which initially I thought would make a fabulous pendant, but I soon realised that the best orientation to see the flash wouldn't work as a ring.
So I made the decision to turn it into a pendant:
What do you think?
