The problem with any business, new, old, small or big is visibility.
I was invited to attend the launch of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Race Equality Hub, at the magnificient Sefton Park Palmhouse.
My initial thought was I really can't be bothered, but thought you know what, they are sponsoring my stall at the upcoming BobExpo at the Liverpool arena, so I might as well go along and see what they are all about and how they propose to support Black owned business within the region.
I got there reasonably early and bumped into a few faces I knew through my volunteering activities, and some I didn't, found out about and talked to some Black Activists and their family connections.
After all the speeches and the nibbles I got talking to a lady who I didn't know worked with Granada News, who asked if I would be willing to be interviewed for a piece about how the launch would benefit a small business like mine.
If you know me I have this crazy motto, "If I can't think of a reason not to do it say yes, and work out the details later."
As part of the interview they wanted to video me making some jewellery, which I was a bit hesitant to say the least, as my handcrafted jewellery making involves me using a blow torch, which I tend to use more as a flame thrower inorder to get the metal to the required temperature to make the solder flow:
Within minutes of the piece airing on the Granada Reports evening news, I had a raft of new followers on Instagram and a few enquiries via the website. At a market the next day a few customers recognised the brand and asked if it was me that they had seen on the TV the previous nght.
I even got recognised at the local Post Office when I went in to send off the orders.
What do you think of the interview?
