Trying something a little different
Trying something a little different
I am constantly on a journey of improving my design and stone setting techniques, so never afraid to do something different.
It's with this in mind, and being inspired by the architecture following a trip to visit a friend in Nottingham, that I decided to play around, by adding a few embellishments to my pendant and ring settings.
My normal stone settings are very minimalistic, I love to show off the natural brillance of the stones, selecting dyamic and dramatic matrixes, and I do not want the setting to distract from that.
The other reason is that in the past, being canny to keep the weight below the 7.78g of sterling silver requirement, before it must be hallmarked.
Once one piece goes over that threshold, you're already looking at a minimum order of £25, so you might as well go all in!!!
Obvisously the bigger the stone, the more metal you have to use in the setting, and the more likely it will go over the weight, so with this in mind, with some of the transparent stones, with a polished backs, allows me to make cut outs to reduce the amount of sterling silver used:
Handcrafted recycled sterling silver star cut out pendant settings
The great thing about metal is that the off-cuts can be used in other designs, and the smaller pieces can be melted down to create solid balls, which can have a variety of uses.
In this case I decided to add them to the ring and pendant settings, to bring a little something, something....

I'm not gonna lie, controlling the balls whilst heating up the metal, with the perpensity for the flux to move everything was quite tricksy, but the end the results were well worth the effort:
What do you think?
